Gustave Kasteleyn the dangerous box 1878

Gustave Kasteleyn (1848-1900), the dangerous box, 1878, a very rare and unique handcrafted terracotta 'singerie' sculpture, signed and dated on the base, 23 x 45,5 x 26 cm. Numerous old restorations, parts missing and cracks. Up to this date the only caricature sculpture by this artist, who produced mainly portrait busts. Kasteleyn has a work in Museum of fine Arts in Gent. The meaning of this work remains a mystery, but could it have something to do with the 1878 elections in Belgium where the liberals won for the first time from the catholics?
