Georges Van der Straeten large terracotta bust dated 1879

Georges Van der Straeten (1856-1928), a large terracotta bust of a bearded man, signed and dated at the back 1879, 68 x 56 x 38 cm. The bust has suffered some damage to the back and also to the head (visible on the photographs), this seems to have been restored a long time ago and could be due to firing?
