Alfons Dessenis (1874-1952), an extremely early and rare expressionist-realist portrait of a woman, Sint-Martens-Latem, 1906 (!), ink on paper, 42 x 29,5 cm (day measure), signed, localised in old spelling and dated 1906 bottom right. Dimensions with frame:  54 x 41 cm. A historical important drawing by this artist. Although Dessenis was pivotal in the development of the new art in St-Martens-Latem, and influenced Minne, De Saedeleer, Servaes and Van de Woestijne with his work made before 1910, he is often overlooked in modern historical surveys because of the rarity of these early works.
