Auguste Serrure (Antwerp 1825 - Schaarbeek 1902), a very rare oil sketch with a town market with people sitting and talking, a medieval city in the background, a preparatory work for a large painting, oil on canvas, indistinctly signed bottom right, 15 x 25 cm, in the original but damaged frame, framed behind glass, dimensions with frame 18,2 x 28 cm. Unexamined out of frame. A visible vertical fold into the canvas. Provenance: the collection of the painter Alfred Verwee.
